Karta was founded on the idea to take you farther and get you closer to that happy place where nothing else matters but the moment. Our maps are simply the tool to get you there … to help lead you to deeper and more meaningful experiences found beyond our everyday windows, walls and devices. We exist to help you find what your looking for, chart a course to a simpler place, and revel in the experiences you find along the way.
Here at Karta, it's all about outdoor pursuits. At our core, we have dirt, sun, snow and rivers running through our veins. We’re just like you, sharing the same experiences on the mountains, trails, rivers, snow and farm fields. Our time plotting and planning our return to these magnificent places, and constant burning desire to find the next, push us to make the most forward-thinking map products possible for those who share the same passions as us.
OUR PLACE.
Today, home is among the clouds and peaks of Leadville, Colorado, where we are immersed in our commitment to crafting the most innovative maps in the world. When we’re not playing in the western landscape, you can find us tending to our roots in the Wisconsin farm country where we grew up.
OUR STORY.
Karta was born when Founder Spencer Stanek, a landscape architect by education and ski resort designer by profession, started making maps for friends and family. After looking at what was out there, he found that no one was providing a high quality, easy, and fast solution for getting customizable printed maps. Using his expertise and experience in land planning, cartography, GIS and graphic design, he set out to build a user friendly system that allows people to be able to create a map totally unique to their needs and stacked with customizable options, where you can see and adjust proofs immediately as you create, and not spend weeks waiting for it to be delivered.
“Having grown up in Wisconsin my father instilled in me a deep respect and passion for the land. Whether we were whitetail deer hunting at our farm or road tripping through the western states, I always reveled in the moments where time seemed to stand still and nature moved in slow motion around me. I have always been inspired to want as many people as possible to experience that same feeling and appreciate those raw moments in nature. Karta is a way to help people reach and remember those places, those moments, and get closer to the truly amazing things that exist out there.”

OUR COMMITMENT.
We are committed to learning from our past, being present in our today, and innovating forward into the future. We remain grounded in our founding principles, and in the midwestern ethics we were raised on … working hard each day, producing the best quality products we can, and treating our customers and neighbors with respect. Thats why we print and ship all of our maps from our small town shop in Leadville, Colorado, where we can oversee the quality of everything that goes out our door, employ our friends and neighbors, and have the kids help out. For us it’s a family, and we welcome you to be part of it.
